Second opinion: Many women have small fibroids that do not interfere with their pregnancies at all. The mere presence of a fibroid does not mean you must have surgery. Ask your doctor why surgery is being suggested--are the fibroids large? Is there a history of miscarriage. You could ask an infertility expert. I have seen women carry babies to term with fibroids that were over 16 cm in size!

Fibroids: I would add to dr sandland's comments that myomectomy is an option to remove the fibroids from the uterus. Your doctor is probably basing the recommendation on your age and fertility potential, but should instead listen to your desires in this regard.
