Ear contouring: Otoplasty is an outpatient surgical procedure for reshaping of prominent ears. Risks include anesthesia, infection, under-correction, over-correction, asymmetry and others. A new non-surgical ear correction procedure called cartilaze will likely revolutionize the approach to reshaping of prominent ears.

Change shape of ears: "oto" means ears, and "plasty" means to change the shape or form. Otoplasty changes the size, prominence or shape of the ears. It is most commonly performed in children or young adults with ears that stick out or protrude from the head. Other ear disorders like "cup" or "lop" ear, "stahl" ear and "microtia" have misshaped or missing cartilage that is modified or fixed to make the ear look normal.

Reshaping the ear: Otoplasty means to shape and form the ear. I like to use local or general anesthesia and make an incision behind the ear. The cartilage is reshaped and the ear repositioned. Recovery time is 10 to 14 days.

Ear reshaping: Otoplasty is the name for the procedure to reshape a malformed ear. It can be done for congenital defects in the ear, or just to change the appearance. Depending on how the ear is shaped, the operation may be done with or without incisions, but recovery either way is minimal and the procedure should give permanent results.

Ear reshaping: Otoplasty is any technique that reshapes the ears. It can be used with a variety of sutures, excision cartilage, etc. It is typically performed on an outpatient basis.

AKA Ear Pinning: Prominent ears protrude due to 2 main issues. The top of the ear lacks an "antihelical fold" which is the curved cartilage paralleling the upper rim of the ear. The bottom of the ear can protrude, because the "bowl" of the ear" just before the ear canal, is overly large. Otoplasty: a crease incision behind the ear, "bending" the cartilage at the top, +/-"tacking" the bowl down & back.

Ear pinning.: Otoplasty literally means ear shaping. The most frequent type of otoplasty is the reduction of prominent ears. Ears that stick out, can be brought back, closer the the head. This does not effect the function of the ear, so it is an elective procedure performed when the large ears are a source of embarrassment.

Fix protruding ears: An otoplasty is done to reposition prominent ears to a more normal appearance. There are many techniques that depend on the nature of the deformity, but virtually all are done through incisions on the back of the ears. Results can be very gratifying; this is the kind of deformity in kids that often elicits a great deal of teasing.

Ear contouring: Otoplasty is also known as ear contouring and has been referred to as ear pinning. Surgical otoplasty involves creating or improving the bend (anti-helical fold) in the ear cartilage and/or setting the bowl portion of the ear back closer to the head. Similar results are now possible without surgery using the cartilaze (laser assisted cartilage reshaping) procedure.
