Does an overbite always require braces?

Depends: Overbite is the length that the top teeth come over the bottom...In some cases, this is very "deep" and should be corrected...It the teeth are in a normal relation to each other, then no. Although, this may not necessarily be the only reason to have braces.

Not always: The decision to undergo orthodontic treatment for a malocclusion or bite problem is based on a number of factors. The inability to chew food, pain, problems and/or decay due to crowding or malpositioned teeth, and concern over esthetics are some reasons. Many patients with an overbite or other malocclusions feel they have no symptoms and choose not to seek treatment.

Overbite: In layman's terms, an "overbite" typically refers to the upper front teeth sticking out horizontally, further than the lower front teeth. An orthodontist defines an "overbite" as the vertical overlap of the upper front teeth over the lower front teeth. It's best to have an exam with an orthodontist to determine the problem and solutions.
