Possibly: The most common type of scoliosis is known as idiopathic and is the kind usually diagnosed in teenagers. It is more unusual for a baby to have scoliosis. Scoliosis in a baby is often associated with another diagnosis and depending on that diagnosis the child's development may not be normal. Any baby with scoliosis should be evaluated by a specialist in pediatric orthopedics.

Possible: If there is a congenital scoliosis there is a higher risk of other organ system involvement that may affect development such as cardiac or heart issues, renal or kidney issues or neurologic issues like brain or spinal cord problems . This last category may cause scoliosis not related to the congenital type.
