Yes: Although traditionally viewed as antidepressants, some selective seretonin reuptake inhibitors (ssri) like fluoxetine, do have indications for anxiety disorders. You may not get the instant relief that you would with a clonazepam, but long term, they are effective. Good luck!

Yes.: Ssri's in general have been shown to be helpful for generalized anxiety disorder. Randomized trials have been done to show the benefit of ssris like paroxetine, sertraline, and citalopram. Less rigorous studies have shown a benefit for fluoxetine. Sometimes it takes some trial and error to find the right one that works with your body.

Yes, very often.: Anxiety comes in different types. The more severe ones, like panic attacks, are most helped by fluoxitine. Often anxiety can be a sign of depression, especially if it's new. In cases of severe worry about difficult life events drugs like Clonazepam are more helpful. Most importantly, tell your doctor if it helps you and if you have side effects.
