Possibly serious.: Maternal hyperthyroidism from graves' disease (most common reason - an autoimmune condition) can affect the pregnancy and fetus adversely in many ways: preterm birth, decreased birth weight, fetal/neonatal hyperthyroidism with or without goiter, polyhydramnios, cesarean section and arrhythmias are all possible, as is fetal loss. A maternal-fetal medicine specialist and endocrinologist should help!

Complications: Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism during pregnancy can increase the risk of miscarriage, preterm labor, low birth-weight babies, stillbirths, pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure, low platelet, protein in urine and mental changes)...You should not have uncontrolled hyperthyroidism during pregnancy. Please make sure you have an experienced endocrinologist on your team.
