Warm moist compress: Unless you think the swelling is due to an injury. If there is redness or a pimple like lesion on the eyelid, then it is most likely a stye. If the swelling does not improve with warm moist compress, or if your symptoms worsen, then see your Dr.

Styes: If you have styes, then you likely have have underlying blepharitis (lid inflammation) which is causing your meibomian glands to become occluded and infected (like a pimple). Treatment is usually warm compresses for at least 12 minutes followed by lid massages with possible antibiotic/steroid combination eyedrop.
