A heart healthy diet: Go to the American Heart Association and read the detail on eating a heart healthy diet. This includes lowering sugar, fat and limiting alcohol. Exercise may help too. If you try lifestyle modifications for a few months with no change in the number your doctor can prescribe medication. Goal less than 150

Don't Rx a lab: High triglycerides are most worrisome as a marker for coronary risk, and this is best addressed big-picture (fitness, lifestyle, managing hypertension / diabetes, avoiding smoking, maybe diet). For some people, high triglycerides are your body's way of asking for more vigorous exercise. Think about it -- it's a great gift for yourself in any case.
