Topical treatment: A localized itching sounds like an allergic or contact dermatitis, which is best treated by topical therapy - Benadryl (diphenhydramine) lotion, calamine, possibly Aloe, and removing the offending agent. If redness and swelling of the skin are also present, you may need topical or systemic steroid treatment to reduce the inflammatory process. An oatmeal bath can soothe the skin surface as an added treatment
