Fever during illness: in children continue to recur while the infection is still present, usually for up to five days. Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin temporarily reduce it but cure nothing. What you are experiencing is expected and normal. Most infections in children are viral and resolve on their own with time, but persistent fevers beyond five days, worsening or new symptoms or increasing degree of fever warrants appointment.
