Check the ears: This sounds classic for an ear infection, make sure your pediatrician can look into both ears with a stethoscope, if it's allergies antihistamine will do the job, but amoxicillin seems the next step.

Viral infection: Your 1 year old seems to be having some viral infection which is causing him to be sleepy and causing cough and cold. He may feel better in 1-2 days, but if symptoms persist or more symptoms like cough or diarrhea, and pulling at ears, get him checked by your doctor. Give him more fluids to ease the cough and cold.
