FNAB: Hi. Hyperechoic is no guarantee. Your nodule(s) >10 mm need fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). Don't be scared...most are benign. But by the same token, don't ASSUME benignity! Satisfy yourself with cold, hard facts...cytology (and, hopefully, genetic testing, such as Afirma). Good luck!

Why are you scared?: Thyroid nodules are very common and most are benign. It appears from your question that you have had an ultrasound of your thyroid. If the findings of that ultrasound are not clear to you, you should discuss them with the doctor who ordered the test. Has a biopsy been scheduled or follow up with another ultrasound? If only follow up was scheduled then you should not worry. Just wait and see.
