I have a 1.6 cm x 1.1 cm x 1.7 cm midpole predominantly hyperechoic thyroid nodule. suggests a fine needle aspiration. findings suggest a diffuse thyroiditis. do i need a fine needle aspiration? and what is a diffuse thyroiditis?

Diffuse thyroiditis is also called Hashimoto thyroiditis which is common in older women. Thyroid nodule is one manifestation of this disease. What is your TSH level, normal, low or elevated? TSH level also affects the decision of fine needle aspiration (FNA). Just base on the characteristics of the nodule without TSH level, you can choose to be monitored. If TSH level is low, you do not need FNA

Thyroiditis throughout thyroid. Mostly related to autoimmune issues. Cause unknown. Mi an confused. Did you have a biopsy that showed diffuse disease?
