A member asked:

Suffer from chronic gerd. no barrett's. is it better to stay on omeprazole long term, or have surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pros & cons: Avoid issues that delay stomach emptying &/or relax LES--spicy, greasy food, mints, alcohol, tobacco, chocolate, tomato-based products, caffeinated & fizzy drinks, eating before bedtime. Lose weight. Elevate head of bed on blocks. Acid blockers are generally safe, but long-term PPI's can promote bone-thinning, low magnesium, C.difficile--balance against risks of Barrett's & diminished lifestyle.
