Yes: Most scoliosis develops during the adolescent growth spurt, especially in females. It is at risk for getting worse during that time. Another form of scoliosis is termed "de novo" scoliosis, that develops around menopause and is associated with osteoporosis.

Yes: With age, a curve can occur denovo or new typically in post menopausal females in the lumbar spine due to degeneration &/or osteoporosis . Sometimes a curve that was never diagnosed may also progress to point that it is noticeable. Sometimes, prior spine surgery or other issue like a paralytic injury or tumor can cause a deformity. There are other reasons as well that can lead to this as well.
