Any way to do a self- test for scoliosis?

With difficulty: You could set up a video camera, stand with your back to it and your feet even and slightly apart. Then, bend forward at the waist and slowly rise to standing as you record your back. Watch the video and look for any noticeable right-to-left curves or uneven bumps along your spine as you rise. It wouldn't be very accurate, but it could give you an idea. Still best to have a trained eye check you.

Iphone app: The iphone has a "scoliometer' which is a device which you can place on your back when bent forward (someone else has to do it). If it reads more than 7 degrees, you may have scoliosis. However, there may be some increased measurement error if you are doing it yourself. Also, if you are an adult, then the scoliosis (curvature of the spine), may be of little significance.
