Childs risk=15%: There is a genetic association for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. It is 10x more common in girls. Mother/daughter risk is about 15 %.

Idiopathic: The most common form of scoliosis is termed adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (ais). Idiopathic is the code word for "we don't know the cause" it is a problem that develops most frequently in females as they go through their adolescent growth spurt. It is during that time of rapid growth that these curves develop and are at risk for getting worse.
