Little difference: I feel there little difference between these two medications which are not tranquilizers but are used to treat itching and allergic reactions. Drowsiness is potentially seen with their use,however. Hydroxyzine is stronger than benadryl (diphenhydramine) and is available only by prescription.

Neither: Hydroxyzine may work better for anxiety but best treatment is SSRI especially when not using benzodiazepines due to its addiction potentials.
