Watch carefully: From your description, it's hard to tell if your pain is inside the shoulder joint or around it. It seems like you have muscle pain or ligament strain around the shoulder. Local heat or old, whichever gives the most relief, is worth trying. Acetaminophen or an NSAID (like naproxen) may help for pain relief. Watch it carefully. If it is not improving, then get medical attention. Hope that helps.

May be referred: Your pain may be from the shoulder joint or from the muscles and soft tissue around your back or scapula. There is a possibility the pain is referred from your neck or thoracic spine as well. You should get a physical evaluation by your doctor and good luck.
