Ruptured cyst: Could be an epidermoid cyst. These can rupture under the skin and cause a large area of swelling and redness. These can be removed relatively easily, unless they have been drained previously, in which case they can be scarred and adhere to the surrounding tissue. Frequently, if they are very inflamed, the area will improve with oral antibiotics (rx).
