Possibly: There have been small studies in regards to both topical and oral preparations of zinc for acne. From a supplemental perspective the oral ranges have been quite variable - from 40-300 milligrams of zinc sulfate two or three times daily for 4-12 weeks. I would review taking doses higher than 50 mg per day with your physician.

Yes: A 2001 study in the journal Dermatology found a clinical success rate was 31.2% for zinc and 63.4% for minocycline antibiotic. Zinc gluconate reduces Propionibacterium acnes resistance to erythromycin antibiotic. Hope that helps.
