A member asked:

What causes a person to get alcoholic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Alcoholism is a: progressive condition that starts out as novel drinking, then habitual drinking, then compulsive drinking. It can be chronic or binge in nature and can take weeks or years to develop this pattern. Some say its a bad habit (Rational Recovery) while others say its a disease (Alcoholics Anonymous). Go to a psychologist or perhaps an AA meeting for more information.
