Infection vs stone: The tonsillar surface is irregular with multiple crypts. Infection with actinomyces and other bacterial infections my appear like what you're describing. Also tonsilloliths or stones may be the cause. There are various neoplasia which may occur in the tonsils too. Warm salt water gargles may help. You should see your physician for an examination.
