Tales from the crypt: Sounds like you have deep pockets in your tonsils that collect debris and food-- and part of the nails you've chewed-off thinking about this. And I bet your breath may get, how you say, "interesting" at times. Well, best to get examined by a throat specialist (ENT). In the meantime, rinse/gargle thoroughly, chew gum and wear a steel-plated surgical mask with a one-way valve.
