A 28-year-old female asked:
if a 1cm complex kidney cyst has been stable in size for 4 months, what are the chances it is cancer and is it possible for it to spread at this size?

Renal cyst: The fact that it is small and stable after 4 months is a good sign. However another renal ultrasound should be done in 6 months to look for growth or change in structure. There is an increased risk of malignancy with a complex cyst and it should be watched closely

A 36-year-old member asked:
What are the signs that complex kidney cyst is cancer?

Multiple features: Complex cysts, vs. Simple cysts, share common walls with other cysts, have solid components in the walls, or calcifications.
The radiologist will opine if features look suspicious and either recommend a repeat ultrasound in 6 months, or a ct to further clarify.
