A 34-year-old female asked:

high attenuation cyst on kidney, approximately 3cm. erthryopoietin elevated and wbc, rbc and hemaocrit elevated though not drastically. cancer?

Bright cyst on ct: Usually a high attenuating cyst means the cyst is bright on a CT scan. While malignancy is in the differential diagnosis there are benign causes as well, such as a hemorrhagic cyst (a cyst with blood in it). Usually such findings are followed up with additional imaging studies for better characterization and interval growth before proceeding to biopsy or resection.

A 50-year-old member asked:

I just found a lump in my breast that is very tender. Im pregnant, so my breasts are changing. Could it be breast cancer? Should I be alarmed?

Not likely: Any new breast lump that you find (even in pregnancy) should be evaluated by your physician. Even pregnant women can rarely develop breast cancer, but this is more likely a benign condition like a clogged milk duct. Your doctor will decide if any additional testing is needed.

Ask urologist: If your stones are a particular kind then you can modify your diet. Drink plenty of water with the next pregnancy.
A 33-year-old member asked:

I had a lot of bladder infections. Should I worry about getting a kidney infection?

Dr. Sheila Goodman
Specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology
Yes: Bladder infections in pregnancy are more likely to progress to kidney infections than normal. Kidney infections may also cause preterm delivery, pneumonia or bacteria in the bloodstream. If you have a bladder infection and develop fever, pain going into your back or symptoms like the flu, you need to let your doctor know immediately.
A 47-year-old member asked:

Does having a miscarriage (when the body naturally aborts a pregnancy) increase my chances of breast cancer?

Dr. Hugo Ribot

No: There is no scientific evidence in the gynecologic medical literature that miscarriage - whether spontaneous such as a miscarriage, or induced, such as with an elective abortion - is in any way associated with an increased risk of breast cancer or any other malignancy for that matter.
A 44-year-old female asked:

Stage 3 breast cancer her2 positive how many herceptin (trastuzumab) cycle she must undergo?

2 doctor answers9 doctors weighed in
Dr. Romeo Mandanas
Hematology and Oncology 38 years experience
Up to 1 year's worth: Herceptin (trastuzumab) can be given together with initial chemotherapy for the first 4-6 months then subsequently by itself for a total of 1 year. If chemotherapy was given first without Herceptin (trastuzumab) then Herceptin (trastuzumab) can be given for a full year by itself. The usual cycle runs every 3 weeks (17-18 cycles in one full year).

The optimal treatment duration is currently unknown. Trials are being done to see if short term therapy is just as beneficial with less side effects, like cardiac dysfunction. For now, one year of treatment is accepted as the time period of therapy.
