Yes, no, maybe?: You read mixed responses because each individual case is different as well as spectrum of experience, training and philosophy of doctors. Does a baby aspirin help with pain relief?

It might: Each person is different. Try it if you would like. However, it will not compare to a custom fitted appliance made by your dentist.

Sometimes: Sometimes. Custom splints are better. Try an OTC splint. Follow instructions. You can tell if it's working because your TMJ will feel better.
