Colonization?: Women have higher risk for UTI than men, due to short urethra. You can decrease your risk by making sure you are well hydrated, wash properly after a BM, urinate and wash after intercourse. Urine culture positive is not a diagnosis for UTI. You might have colonization rather than infection. The distinction is not made based on having or not symptoms, but by the urinalysis results.
