What you were told is not true. Check for the drugs the E.coli was sensitive to and you should be /have been on one of that. Drink plenty of fluids specially. water. Take OTC Azo for 3-4 days(it will turn urine orange) and you should be OK

As in the response to your other question, you may have non-infectious urethral syndrome. Or perhaps the E. coli was resistant to nitrofurantoin (Macrobid) and a different antibiotic will be more effective. Ask your doctor if sensitivity testing was done to know exactly which antibiotics are active against the E. coli. Ciprofloxacin may be a good choice, azithromycin less likely. Good luck.
