Would a blood test show if a swollen lymph node is caused by an infection?

Not necessarily: One isolated lymph node is most likely reactive and sometimes reflects chronic inflammation, rather than acute. Blood work may or may not reveal its cause, depending upon the acuity of the condition and the type of blood work that is ordered.
