Toe injury: If the toe is painful and oozing, it is a sign of infection. You should have your PCP take a look at it before it becomes an abscess. Perhaps a clean dressing and nail clipping may take care of it, but you may need antibiotics if th infection is more. In the mean time, clean it with warm water and soap and apply a proper dressing

Could be infected: Try soaking your toe in warm soapy water for 10 mins at a time, 2 or 3x/day, and then applying antibiotic ointment and a bandage. Elevate your foot often. If you notice increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pain, pus-like drainage, or any fever, you may require antibiotics by mouth or removal of a foreign body (the sand) and you should see a doctor immediately.
