Don't know but ...: A week or two of antibiotics will not hurt and if the swelling and pain go away so be it. Sometimes you don't see an entry point for a wound but remember that these organisms are microscopic. You cannot seem them with your naked eyes so your doc used his clinical judgement as to what he thought was the most likely thing happening. Since I am not there I have to defer to his call.
