Unclear: it may be too early to see a fetus and for sure it is too early for the heartbeat. OR it could mean that the fetus has not developed and that the pregnancy will not develop. no harm in waiting 10 days and repeating the ultrasound. would advise blood pregnancy tests 3 days apart twice to see if levels rising appropriately also.

Too early: Your pregnancy is too young for verification by ultrasound.

Very Good Question: With early ultrasound, it is now possible to see embryo heart motion as early as 6 weeks. While your concern is valid, repeating the ultrasound in 1-2 weeks will reveal the health of the pregnancy. Early pregnancy failure is a possibility I am sorry to say. However, if you do make it to 8 weeks with an embryonic heart beat, the chances of loosing the pregnancy drop dramatically to about 3%.
