Don't recommend: extracting your own tooth. I really encourage you to see a dentist promptly.

Lets review your sym: You could have developed a dry socket which is when the blood clot is no longer present in the tooth socket and severe pain develops. Some OTC remedies can be tried: clove oil to tooth area but the best advice is to seek the help of a dentist. they can clean the area of debris and can see if any signs of infection have occurred

Return to surgeon: #3 is a large molar and extracting it is a minor surgical procedure. It would be well within normal expectations for you to still have some pain. If you are worse than before your surgery, you may want to consider calling your doctor to evaluate your healing. Rinsing to soon after surgery, smoking, over activity can all disrupt the healing process. Get a professional to help you!

Correct: Pain killers modify the pain, they don't eliminate all pain.

Summary: If you actually extracted your own tooth you may still not be out if the woods. It may already have an infection that still won't resolve without antibiotics. You may also have a root fragment left. May even have a cyst still there. Not sure if you did more harm than good thinking all is OK now when it isn't. Be smart and see a dentist pain or no pain.
