No test is perfect: Matt, A CT scan would show most gross abnormalities of the neck, like thyroid masses, large abscesses, or other tumors. No test is perfect, however. I'm not sure what symptoms you are having, but if they persist despite a normal CT, speak with your doctor. Hope this helps!

CT can: rule out many things, but small mucosal lesions and infection may not be seen, and are best evaluated with direct visualization by your doctor or ENT.
