Your description : is complete enough for me to surmise that this could be pinching or impingement of nerve coming from upper neck. Likely the sub-occipital nerve. Warm and cold compresses to area at upper neck level can help.

I've had this headache for around three days. It's severity fluctuates and its often sharp. It is in the back left side of the head.
