Get check for: ailments like Lyme disease, Chiari malformation, etc. FMS is a diagnosis of exclusion IMHO. There is usually a cause.

Rheumatologist: Middle age person suspicious of fibromyalgia might have consultation with a Rheumatologist because these specialists usually have greatest insight about and experience with this disorder. First, make sure the doctor believes in reality of the problem; some do not.

Fibromyalgia: Have a full workup from your general care practitioner to determine if fibromyalgia is the correct diagnosis.
