Can you have a canker sore on your gums? on the side near where the teeth are and not just the inner cheek, tongue, or inside of the lips?

Yes, you can: Recurrent aphthous ulcers may sometimes form on the attached gingiva, although most will occur on the mucous membranes. If it doesn't resolve on its own within 14 days, consult with your dentist.

Yes: Recurrent aphthous ulcers are very common on the soft tissue just below the margin of the gum tissue as opposed to a "cold sore" which are recurrent herpetic lesions which respond to Acyclovir or Valtrex (valacyclovir). They also look like blisters before since they have fluid inside them. Aphthous ulcers can recur in the same spots but do not develop a blister. An Rx for Kenalog in Orabase may help for pain.
