Probably viral: This is probably a viral infection. When a virus infects it can invade multiple types of muscosal cells...gingiva, esophageal, tonsillar etc. Don't panic too much about the dots you see...the tongue is very vascular, colonized with every bacteria and fungus and has odd type cells if you look close enough. When it gets inflamed it can take quite abnormal and serious. Rest, fluids and time now.
