A member asked:

Is oral submucous fibrousis dangerous and leads to cancer. i am very worried. is it true that surgery for this can develope to cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not dangerous: Cancer of the oral mucosa was originally a disease of heavy smoking and alcoholism. This led to mucosal changes with ulceration typical of squamous Ca. Submucous fibrosis is benign and unrelated to cancer. If it is excised surgically, this can never lead to cancer.
