Per my medical records for an ileostomy reversal surgery i underwent, it states the surgeon did a renal autotransplant involving retroperitoneal fibrosis. normal procedure? explain, please.

Not usual: When you were operated on they found scar tissue in the retroperitoneal area where the kidney is. It was probably hampering the kidney's function, so they disconnected it and moved it to a more favorable location. They did you a great service by protecting that kidney.
