Fever just symptom: Fever is just a symptom - it's not something you treat. You need to know the underlying cause of the fever - where is the infection or what is disease causing the fever. The child is now on an antibiotic - cefixime. Give it a couple of days to do its job, and if fever persists after that, then take child back to doctor for re-evaluation. Don't worry so much about fever - it helps fight infections.

Must identtify cause: Antibiotics should not automatically be given to anyone just for aver. Fever lasting 7 days certainly needs a work up. Is it a viral, urinary tract infection, mononucleosis, chest infection etc.with an organism resistant to cefixime. Suggest your child sees his pediatrician & has a complete physical examination including a urine test.
