Laser not necessary: Cataract surgery is usually performed when vision is about 20/40 or worse, however it depends on many factors. One thing I tell my patients, is that if the cataract is causing vision loss great enough to prevent them from doing the things they need or want to do, then it is time (this varies from person to person). Use of a laser is not necessary for good quality cataract surgery.
