After my eye visit i was told i needed laser surgery for cataracts. rt. eye, a 1.2 and lt. eye a 1. there is a scale 1-4. i am not sure about this.

Need more informatio: I am not sure what the figures 1.2 or 1.0 mean. Cataracts are a loss of transparency of the eye lens and removal is considered when the lowered vision interferes with your visual function. If you see well, then you can wait. If there is doubt seek a second opinion. Laser (femtosecond) is a helpful adjunct but not mandatory. Cataracts are removed with ultrasound.

Cataract Srgy Timing: In past:Cataract surgery had significant risks (infection, loss of vision, eye). While these risks are still present, they are significantly less: thus benefit often outweighs risk significantly. If best vision is worse than 20/40 or glare is significantly affecting vision, most surgeons prefer to do surgery sooner but depends on pt's sx, pt's risk factors, pt's preference: eyedoc2020.blogspot.com
