Not those strains: We have some experience with the genital wart strains passing to an infant, most often if the mom has active warts at delivery. They may pass silently and show up over the next 2 yrs, We do not see passage of those HPV strains associated with cervical lesions.

Possibly: Since many of 200 or more strains of HPV can trigger a lesion or cause a pregnant woman to be an asymptomatic carrier of the virus, it is theoretically possible for "a pregnant woman who has the HPV virus on her cervix to spread it during vaginal delivery".Studies are needed to determine the frequency of transplacental-hematogenous or transmembrane transmission of each HPV subtype to unborn babies
