Not necessarily: It is rarely necessary to remove the cervix to treat HPV or problems caused by it. Most HPV infections go away on their own. For severe HPV dysplasia, less drastic surgery, cautery, etc usually is sufficient. When the cervix is infected with HPV, the virus usually also has infected other tissues, like vagina, labia, etc. Treating the cervix does nothing for HPV at these sites.
