A member asked:

Do dentists have access to prescription history? my dentist was deciding a med to prescription me and mentioned rxs i took in the past that had 0 to do with my treatment.

Can have access: Dentists don't typically have your medical records / data with regards to rx. They may have contacted your physicians to seek information or pharmacists to get that information because some procedures with dentists can be relatively invasive and some medications are needed and can interact with meds you might be on.

Yes, they do.: Any dentist in Idaho has access to the Idaho State Pharmacy database which records all prescriptions filled for each individual residing in Idaho. We are encouraged to evaluate a patient's prescription history to determine the best medications to prescribe to that patient, and/or prevent prescription drug abuse.
