Inflammation: Allergic reactions to local anesthetics are very rare, but possible. Depending on the type of hypersensitivity reaction, (allergy is typically termed hypersensitivity type I, or immediate) you can have different symptoms. Commonly you might experience nausea, trouble breathing, hives, itchy skin, cough, runny nose, or swelling. If you have trouble breathing, seek immediate medical attention.

Patience.: Many root canals are performed every day at every dental school in America. The procedure is carefully monitored by attending and qualified faculty, and the dental student performing the procedure has likely practiced the procedure many times. The only drawback, in my opinion, is time. Be patient, there are numerous checks required by faculty. End result should be great.

Gum disease?: Different potential causes. The most common would be a hypersensitivity reaction due to some traumatic event, usually clenching or grinding your teeth. Gum disease is another possibility, that localized area could be inflamed causing a pressure sensation in response to touch. If there is sensitivity, swelling, or a bad taste, then visit your dentist immediately, you tooth could be abscessing.
