Early arthritis: Often pain to the great toe joint is associated with a decreased range of motion to the joint. The great toe joint is where your typical 'bunion' occurs but pain can be related to many things but often it is from a condition called Hallux Rigidus. This refers to a decreased flexion of the great toe upwards and can cause jamming of the joint leading to pain, inflammation and eventually arthritis
