A member asked:

On a nutritional food label what does the cholesterol amount mean? is that total, ldl or hdl?

Pure cholesterol: The cholesterol in your blood is packaged as ldl's, hdl's, chylomicrons and so forth. Cholesterol itself is found in food but not packaged as in your body. Ask your personal physician whether you need to limit the amount of cholesterol in your diet.

Total: Its the total amount of cholesterol in the product and not broken down into LDL or hdl.

HDL or good: Cholesterol is metabolized into LDL or bad cholesterol eventually, thus the label cholesterol is neither at first. Most of our cholesterol is made by our own liver. Dietary intake accounts for 15-20 % of your lab values. Peace and good health.
